Oak & Ash

Oak & Ash makes solid hardwood furniture that is meant to be inherited rather than replaced. Hall trees, dining tables, waterfall coffee tables and end grain boards, cut and finished in a shop in Columbia, Tennessee. No veneer, no flat pack, no particle board.

The brief

Oak & Ash started because good furniture had quietly stopped being available. Everything on the showroom floor was veneer over fibreboard, priced like the real thing and built to survive one move. So the first pieces were made for a single house, then for friends, then for anyone who asked.

Every order begins with a conversation about the room it is going into. Size, species, stain, hardware, the height of the bench, whether it has to survive a mudroom in February. The piece is then built to those numbers in the Tennessee shop, by hand, using solid oak, walnut and ash.

It is a slow business on purpose. One maker, a small number of pieces at a time, and a guarantee that if the result is not right it gets made right or refunded in full.

What makes it work

  1. 01

    Built, not assembled

Solid hardwood throughout. Joinery that holds up to a century of use, finished by the person who cut it.

  2. 02

    Specified by you

Dimensions, species, paint colour and bench style are chosen per order. Nothing here ships from a catalogue.

  3. 03

    Made in Tennessee

Everything comes out of one shop in Columbia, using quality material and a fair amount of leverage.

  4. 04

    Guaranteed outright

If a piece is not right, it gets corrected or refunded in full. That is the whole policy.

In their words

My wife was tired of all the cheap veneer furniture out there, so I started building custom pieces for our own home. What began as a simple hobby slowly grew into Oak & Ash.
